The Wanhua International Hotel is a key landmark right at the heart of the Songgang commercial area. It is excellently walkable for experiences of real local urban life but not for traditional tourism. The hotel sits within a lively, bustling commercial street with great variety in local shops: small eating houses, noodle stands, and convenience stores. One can while away an evening just exploring the immediate blocks filled with activity that provides a very local (non-tourist) atmosphere.
Songgang Park is a 15-20 minute walk for a bit of green space. This pleasant local park is a good spot for the morning jog or to check out some locals practicing Tai Chi. Several local shopping centers and markets, where everything from clothes to electronics can be bought at local prices, are within walking distance of the hotel.
The site is far from any of Shenzhen's main tourist attractions all over the city. These include such sites as theme parks, Futian CBD, and the Shekou Sea World complex that are accessible only by a very long metro or taxi ride. Here the walking distance is focused on practical needs and immersing oneself in a busy working-class district of Shenzhen whic.h can be a very interesting experience in itself.
